Liu Lab Presents: Wei-Sung's Winning Streak (and Other Lab News)

Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog, and this time I have SO much good news that I genuinely don't know where to start (but I'll start anyway, because that's my job).

l ended my last blog post awaiting the results from the IOB Mini symposium.

Well. Well. WELL. Buckle up.

Wei-Sung is currently undefeated and we CANNOT stop talking about it!

The poster-that-left-the-judges-speechless? Yes, he just won the IOB Best Poster Award AND the IOB Best Student Paper Award. Both. At once. We are begging him to leave some awards for the rest of us. 🏆🏆 (Two trophy  emojis because one felt insufficient)

TSME Conference and Wei-Sung said "again?"

Last weekend, the Liu lab members headed out to the Taiwan Symposium of Microbial Ecology conference, organised and hosted by National Taiwan University. First of all, a big thank you to all the lab members who helped organise this event. You guys did such a great job.

Next, WHERE SHOULD I EVEN START? Both of my colleagues Yusril and Wei-Sung came back with the Best Poster Awards. Yes, thanks to Yusril for giving some company to Wei-Sung on the podium.

Honorary mentions for best posters go to Yi-Hua, Tai-Ching, and Jia-Yun, who all represented the lab beautifully and deserve applause for putting up a fierce competition!

And can we appreciate the fact that this was such a BIG HUGE IMMENSE (okay, I will stop) WIN for our lab? Has there been a bigger win than this before? PROBABLY NOT! And you heard it first here! I may or may not brag about this for the next few weeks (or months).

In other news, The NTU Department of Bioresources and Agriculture hosted their yearly Best Academic Paper Award, and guess who got called up? Wei-Sung (obviously, at this point he's basically an award subscription service) and yours truly. Phew. What a month. 😮‍💨

Honestly, at this point Wei-Sung should just start budgeting for frames, because these certificates aren't going to hang themselves. Congratulations to everyone who competed, presented, and put their work out there this month. It takes guts ( and successful experiments) and you all showed up.

Coming up: we're taking this show on the road!

Next week, the Liu Lab is off to Japan for the Asian Symposium for Microbial Ecology conference! Passports - packed, nerves- mostly packed too. Wish us luck, and if you don't hear from us for a bit, assume we're either presenting, eating our body weight in Japanese food, or both.

Here's to a month that peaked early and somehow kept peaking. See you on the other side (of a successful conference)!

-By Roy (running out of superlatives for Wei-Sung)

P.S. LIU LAB IS WAITING FOR WEI-SUNG'S TREAT
